Abstract

Phytoremediation is an emerging branch of plant sciences for removing contaminants from water, soil, and sediments along with various types of wastewater. It is a very promising tool in wastewater management which is cost effective and utilises the ability of plants in restoration of the surrounding environment. In the present study, the phytoremediation potential of Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) was assessed for domestic wastewater treatment by using constructed wetlands. Water samples were collected before and after phyto–treatment and their physico–chemical parameters were analysed. The results indicated that  Chrysopogon zizanioides is a very efficient plant in the decentralized phyto–treatment of domestic wastewater.
